hi- i've had a Rena XP2 for over 5 years and after cleaning it last week, it started having trouble. although i can hear the motor running, no water is flowing in or out.

i've cleaned it pretty thoroughly. no blockage in any of the tubes, no gunk slowing down the spinner that goes around the magnetic pole. the motor seems to be running.

the only thing i can surmise is that the spinner part isn't able to move normally. it doesn't spin freely when out of the lid unit and when the motor is going i'm hearing a slight grinding. of course the technical assistance line for aquarium pharmaceuticals is closed over the weekend. any suggestions?

another question is- it's been a week since it stopped working. i've been doing a 20-30% water change nightly and the fish seem fine but i'm wondering how much longer i can go w/o hurting the fish. (mostly tetras, rainbows, and a pleco).

thanks in advance.

Did you accidentally remove the small black plug that goes into the bottom of the impeller housing? My XP2 didn't come with one and would just push water around in the filter without pumping it out. Once I got that little plug sent to me, it works like a charm. Just a thought...
