well i have one of these systems: http://www.hawkeyeaquarium.com/aquatanks.html the 5 gallon aquabrite one.

well it came with a nice filter. unfortunately, it seems way to strong. too strong the the betta, the 2 ottos, and the 2 african dwarf frogs. i see no configuration for the setting of it. i raised water level to try to weaken the curent it produces but its no use.

the food for the betta flys around the surface really fast, then sinks and is propelled downward very quickly and the betta loses it! the ottos can't clean the middle part of the tank, and AFD's just get thrown down.

so now everyone has their "side" of the tank and never goes elsewhere because of the stupid current.

i heard an azoo filter would be great for a 5 gallon and would love to get one, but i also heard they only fit pure glass tanks. mine has the little black plastic rim at the top. plus i just cycled and i'm worried i could disrupt the balance by changing filters because of the bacteria that could be in there....

is there anything i can do? none of the animals seem happy. :(

Maybe get a Whisper Micro Filter or turn off the existing filter at feeding time? I don't know...

yea i'll see what i can do, right now i'm experiemnting with sticking a ruler into the filter so that it trickles down over a larger surface, minimizing a concentrated and strong current.

i don't really want a new filter because the tank was just cycled,, things could go bad very fast if i changed it now.

if only this damn thing had flow control!!!

im guessing the filter is in the hood as i cant seem to find a picture of it. see if you can jam some foam or cloth into the intake.

my filter has the same problem, i put a cloth where hte water comes back out (not sure if this is possible for you ) and let the water trickle down the cloth into the tank. It significantly reduces the water current.

Puting something over the intake iwll also help too, whichever is more possible for you :)

Try running a new filter with the old at the same time. That will give the new a chance to build up the good stuff, while the old is still there with it all. Just a thought.
then that would be double the current. i think he said other filters wouldnt fit on his tank.

is there a heater in your tank? I don't have a clue what your filter is like, where it's positioned, how it works or whatever, but i set up a betta tank and positioned the heater a few inches in front of the filter so the flow kinda deflected (is that even the right word??) off the heater to make it less strong.
