I've got a fluval 2+ internal filter on my tank. It's been running for a few years perfectly silently. Recently I started noticing that if I was close to the tank I could hear a noise but I didn't worry about it because it wasn't loud at all. However it seems to getting worse, by which I mean louder, for longer periods of time, and more often (it's not continuous, it just has sorta "noisy phases").

I'm worried it's broken or breaking because it's never done this before, does anyone know why it would be doing such a thing?? thanks.

just the obviouse here
have you cleaned the impeller lately?
maybe it needs a new one it might be worn out?
is there air trapped in the filter?
:D

yeah I guess I really should've dismantled it and looked at it properly before i asked this question shouldn't I? I'll have a look in a bit and come back crying if I can't see what's up. ta. incidentally how do i tell if it needs a new impeller??

there will be score marks on the smooth bit also there might be chips missing

ecchh. I just dismantled it, cleaned the impeller and the magnet bit like it says in the maintenance instructions, checked it was turning, checked there was no obvious damage, pu it back in...and it's STILL doing it. :( I couldn't see anything trapped/broken anywhere. *sigh* ta for your help though :)
