My fluval 305 just spat out LOADS of what looks like old food waste that was stuck in the intake pipe, I had taken the filter off to just change a couple of sponges and add some more activated carbon, all went well, put the top back on and connected the filter to the tank, the air must have flushed all the intake pipe clean and threw it in my tank. It's not the first time it's happened and I'm getting sick of it doing it lol
Any ideas?

I tested my water this morning,
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 30ppm
Ph 8.2

So all in all my tanks doing ok, just this had to make me now do lots of 30% changes once it settles a bit

This is normal and will likely always happen unless you've cleaned the pipes\filter as well. It would have just been sucked back into the filter on its own, no water changes needed :) A helpful trick is to hold a net over the spraybar to catch anything that spews out.

+1
It always happens to me.(fluval 306) I clean my filter more often these days every 2 weeks and less gunk comes out when i turn it on

Ahh well 50% change, it was water change day anyway and I managed to get a bit of it out, so I've turned my power head to push waste to the filter and turn my air stone off to stop it pushing away
