Filter Setup

Okay I just bought a used 30g hexigon tank. It had the stand and filter and pumps and everything included. Since the only other tank I have ever had was a 10g that used a box filter, I am unsure of how to set up the filter I have. It is assembled, I just dont know how to get water running through it. . So if anyone could give me any instructions, I would appreciate it.

If it's a standard power filter like:

Then an older one may need primed a bit. Simply plug it in with the top off and add water till it starts flowing. The minute it flows you should be able to stop and it should keep going.

Thank you very much . I couldn't find anything on the net yesterday to help me out so I had my brother in law come over today and show me how to make it work. All I had to do is add water in it, like it said in your post. I was making it a lot harder then it actually was.

Almost all power filters are this way, very few self-prime properly, even though many claim to.

What you have is a power filter, btw. Do you have the model number?

Oh okay, thanks . I am unsure of the number because I didn't just buy the filter i got it with the tank. It is sooo loud. Is that because it is older or are all filters very loud?
