Could someone direct me towards a good external or internal filter for a 120 gallon mixed community tank? The tank isn't set up yet so don't as which fish. Thanks :) :) :)

I researched before I started fish keeping & ended up buying a Eheim 2128 Thermo (External) good to 130uk gallons. I run this on my 70 gallon tank. Absolutely brilliant!!

+ the back up support from John Allans (Eheim uk support) has been first class.

I use two aquaclear 500's WOrk quite well. Very inexpensive when purchased on line from www.petsmart.com or www.doctorsfostersmith.com @ $40 each. These filters hold a ton of media too. Anything that can be used in a canister filter can be used in these.

A canister may be better if water flow would be a problem with sensative fish or plants .The AC"S stir the water quite a bit.

in terms of media storage, there's no beating an ehaim canister. Probably the best canister filter money can buy. If your looking for a HOb job, then i would recommend the aquaclears as well

What support did you need ?

I'd use an Eheim Pro 2 or Pro 3. Get a thermal one. You'll end up spending a couple hundred quid but it'll pay off. Anyway, "demonmagus" (if that is your real nam Jai :p), you've got enough money if you were thinking of setting up a nano reef.

have you thought about maybe using a sump filter ?

He's been begging me for my overflow sump plans. :D

Thanks,
Chris

I dont know why you would spend the extra cash to buy an eheim thermo when you can just get a hydor heater that attaches to the return line.
