Filter question

I'm about to setup a tank either for DP, F8 or a small neon/guppy community (not with DP or F8!!

I can't afford a filter until pay day but I have got one of those cheapo box filters with the carbon and filterwool which I'm going to put in.

As I'm looking to get a Fluval 104 (have a 204 which is great) or an equivalent I wondered if I could transfer the filterwool and stones (instead of carbon) into the 104 and that would just continue the fishless cycle process?

yep it should be fine - just add hte filter media to one of the baskets when you get the x04 setup
