Hello all, I am new and got my first tank today. I got a filter with it and I know this might seem like a really stupid questio but how much of the filter can I put in the water. It's an Aquael Fan Filter Plus fan-1.

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome! The only stupid questions are the ones not asked. :)

Submerge the whole filter, but leave it a bit higher up so it ripples the water surface. This will help with flow / oxygenation.

Please read through the resource centre and especially the fishless cycling link and come back with any questions you have.

You want to set it so the outcoming water is at, or just below, the water surface :good:

:hi: to the forum, btw; I hope you don't mind, but could I direct you to our beginner's resource centre (the link is in my sig)? It's full of articles that you might find useful, as a newcomer to the hobby :)

You'll get there. Most of us have been there, made mistakes, asked questions, learnt and now we are good fish keepers. You'll also get there soon, just ask away if you have any problems.

It is confusing to start with, but we have very many experienced and knowledgeable members here who will be happy to answer any questions you have.

We were all beginners once ;)

Is this true of other filters (e.g. mine is a interpet PF1)? Thanks!

Yes, Lizi. Unless you have an external filter they are submerged as described. Or do you mean the cycling bit? Yes, that's also the same for any filter.
