Filter Question

Hi all,
Buying a 4 foot tank. rougly 60G tank. Comes with 2x FX5 Filters>

Wondering if this is overkill for a planted 60G tank and if i should just sell one of the FX5s?

that is quite a bit of filtration for a 60g tank.
i would personally keep the fx5 for use on another tank, but if you have no use for it, you could sell it and use the profit for something else for your tank.

So just run the single FX5 then?

The guy had it running as a marine tank. But is giving me both so im happy either way

yeah, just one will be fine.
also, you may want to look into a DIY spraybar to replace the horn outputs. but that's completely up to you.
also, if it was set up for salt, and you plan to use it for fresh, make sure you thoroughly clean the filter, and rinse or replace the media.

Would the filter media from a Fluval 104 fit into the FX5? Those noodles, sponges and filter floss i think is all thats in mine.
So i wouldnt have to cycle the tank :\

the 105 is quite a bit smaller then the fx5. you will need a lot more media to fill it. also, even with the established media, you should probably do a mini cycle. just test your WP to be sure.
as far as media, there are a ton of options. it really depends on what you want to spend.

Ill just rinse out what is in the FX5s and use that, as ive just bought the tank hehe. If i was to keep the stocking i have and run the fluval media in it, would that atleast hold the current fish bio load? Then slowly stock up as i go so the filter can keep up with the bio load?

Sell that other FX5 on,you'll make a pretty penny there. What did u pay for the setup if u dont mind me asking?

1 FX5 is fine for a 60 gal

450 aus dollars. From my reserach FX5s sell for 400 new, 200-300 used

Comes with 4 ft took, stand, pumps etc etc. was set up as marine tank but im not a marine guy so tropical i go

Now need to find how much gravel will be enough for planted 4 ft tank lol.
