I've got a hagen Tropiquarium 68 and its been absolutely fine for over 3 years (same fish from day 1 and they are all happy). However I turned it off to clean the tank and when I turned it back on the impellor in the pump has stopped working. I've tried looking on the Hagen website for help but its useless :grr:.

I can go to the fish shop tomorrow and try and buy some separate filter equipment/heater etc, but I've never had separate filter stuff, its all integrated in a fluval biolife filter on my tank.

Could any of you lovely people help me and tell me what do I need to get tomorrow to ensure the survival of my fishies?

Thanking you muchly

hello...

right... the 68 uses the same system as the 88 we've got.

The heater is seperate to the pump - so they arnt going to die of cold...

However the pump is what keeps the water flowing past the bacteria rich foam and ceramic compartments.

if you take the top off of the filter the pump is on the left (as you look at it from the front) if you pull on the power cord and push up on the output nozzle, the punp will pop upwards. you can then strip the pump apart (it will pull apart relativly easily) you can then get to the impeller and check if there is anything in there.

there is an uplift tube that attaches to the pump that can get full of poop so give that a good clean at teh same time ;)

let me know if you need any more tips.

Brilliant. Thanks for your help. It actually started working again by itself though.

I've taken the pump out before, but I've not managed to take the impeller apart. I was scared to in case I broke it and couldn't put it back together, but as its over 2 year old and never been cleaned I'll give it a go.

Thanks mate.
