Hi, i have got a 11 gallon tank which has a old filter someone gave to me. There is one problem, the tank is in my bedroom on a desk and the filter needs to be on over-night. The filter makes quiet a loud " low buzzing" sound. Any suggestions on what to do, or maybe if i need a new filter what kind! ? Thanks

are you sure its thye pump making the noise, mine used to buzz turned out to be the lid, place rubber bits between the lid and tank all is ok now.

I had one making a bit of noise. clean out anything that maybe in it.
I dont know what kind you are dealing with, but I could move the intake tube and inlet to the impeller a bit and the tone would change.

Another thing I did on all my filters, I put a folded piece of paper towel over the edge of the tank and the filter sits on that. I also added foam rubber weather stripping to the filter where it touched anything, like the back of the tank and the wall behind it. this cut down a lot of noise.

Another thing is something could be wrong with the filter. an impeller blade could have broke off. I had one like this and I could not get it to shut up. bought a new one.
