Hello
I just purchased a 155 gal tank with overflows of the back sides. It was setup as a reef tank but I have setup as freshwater. I have a 900/950 gpm pump with a wet/dry filter setup. I also purchased 2 overflow pipes to place in the overflow intakes because it was making a lot of noise when the water falls in the overflow tanks. Now, the water keeps getting low in the pump section of the filter and I'm having to add water on a daily basis to keep the pump going. The water level in the tank has reached the rim and soon Iwon't be able to add anymore water without overflowing on the floor.
Any ideas why the water level in the filter keeps getting low?
Thank you

because your return pump is pumping faster than your overflow can supply down to your wet/dry. I would try putting a ball stopper in your return pipe and then you can adjust your flow rate back into the tank and thereby equalize the flow into and out of the tank :good:

For clarity do you mean a ball valve that would therefore be adjustable? Would a gate valve work as well? I would wonder if this may stress the pump as it is running at full bore output but into a restricted return conduit. Would it be feasible to put the pump on a rheostat so that you are changing the output rather that restricting the output?
Thanks.

Well, restricting the flow is your only option here or getting a less powerful pump. I have had this problem with a hang-on overflow bow...I just added an extra U tube...to allow for more water to flow into the sump. I do not think you could do this in a built in system. You might be able to cut your overflow box grooves deeper...this is a pain in the butt though.
