I have been dithering a lot about which external filter to get for my new 200 litre tank and decided to go for Eheim as they get so many recommendations. I have seen the Eheim pro 3 2071 for just over £100 including media and postage which seems like a bargain. The specs state that it should run to 950 l/hr and it is designed for tanks of up to 250 litres.

The next one up is the 2073 which does 1050 l/hr and is for tanks up to 350 litres. It is £25 more.

My question is: is it worth the extra money for just an extra 100 litres per hour flow? I believe the actual flow rate will be less anyway. How much flow do you really need for a 200 litre tank? Presumably the bigger filter has some other benefits?

Cheers.

I would go for the slightly larger one, if nothing else, it has a larger volume and will hold more media.

The flow rate would very much depend on what you want to keep, and at the end of the day, good circulation is more important, in my opinion.

Thanks KK.

The filter volume specs for the 2071 are 3.0 ltr + 0.5 (pre-filter) and the 2073 4.5 ltr + 0.5 (pre-filter). The canister capacity is 6.1 and 7.4 litres respectively. So I guess this is a big difference?

These also have adjustable flow.

save yourself some money and buy an eheim classic . still amazing filters , just without the extra bells and whistles .

either a 2215 or if you wanted to overfilter a 2217 .

There are so many to choose from

The 2217 is nearly the same price as the 2071 and has a similar flow rate. What is the advantage?

where are you looking at the 2071? everywhere ive seen it its almost double the price of the 2217.

warehouse aquatics do the 2217+ for £89

It is £103 from arkpets (I have seen it similar elsewhere as well)
