Filter Not Pumping Much

Hey all,,!

I got a problem with my filter at the moment. I have a 150ltr tank and am using an Aqua-One CF-700 external filter. At first was working fine, but recently its not been sucking up much and spitting out water, instead its just dribbling water. I rinsed the media in tank water to rid of large bits, cleaned the hosing but still not doing the job. Also instead the filter, the spinning propeller thing keeps like starting and stopping, that seems to have sorted itself, but not sure how fast its spinning or if its spinning enough...

Anyone got any ideas, feel free to ask questions...

The tank has been merky for a while now, and dont want to risk infecting the fish etc.

Try cleaning the " spinning propellar thing " A lot of these are magnetic,so if there is a build up of dirt or slime it may not spin properly.

I took it out and cleaned it, but this did not resolve. I was seeing if it was out of shape as well, but it did not seem it.

Remove all the media... does that help ? If so then its clogged up.
Try a length of fresh pipe on the outlet.... see if thats blocked, same with input (you could do this at a sink !)
Failing that, you need a new impeller ("the spinning propeller thing")

i think i will try the media idea, makes sense. IF it is the media, whats the best way of cleaning it without ridding it of much good bacteria?

How much does the "spinning thing" (haha) cost?

Quick google revealed that they are about £5-6 but that was from Australia ! Cant see a local one, but im guessing £10 UK money ! LOL

Some eheim external filters can get clogged simply because of the ammount of media in there. Try removing a sponge and trying again

I will remove the media tonight (only for a while to test) and tommorow maybe go to the LFS and see if they have any of them impellers in stock. As mentioned though, how would I go about cleaning the media whilst retaining the good bateria?

I clean my media in a bowl full of tank water. Whatever you do don't let the media dry out or clean it under tap water

ok brill. I would have thought thats what it is, because there is still water coming through, just not alot going in and out.
Does anyone have any tips as to the best way to start the filter back up again, because it always takes me ages, for example i fill the filter with the tank water first, insert the input pipe into the take i block the output pipe abit till the canister is filled then allow water to go out... is this right? because it always seems that it takes ages for the water or even to get water to go through the output pipe..

Anyone one have guidelines to what they do to get theirs going?
