Hi, hope someone can help please!

My hubby bought a 14L fish tank for my son. We have two goldfish. It has an Elite Mini Filter. I need some help please with the filter:

Firstly, I've installed it as per the instructions, however, should it be blowing bubbles into the water? When it is blowing the bubbles it creates a lot of noise - does this drive our fish mad as they seem to have moved away from it and moved to the other side of the tank? the current appears strong too.

Thank you so much!

It could mean that there is air trapped in the filter. I would gently "shake" it under water and turn it upside down (whilst switched off!). Otherwise if could be a mechanical problem.

That aside, I'm afraid that 14 litres (3 gallons) is inconceivable for 2 goldfish and unacceptable.
The only fish you could really keep in there easily would be a betta.

If you want to keep the goldfish, you'd need a minimum of 30 gallons (140 liters). Anything less would be irresponsible & cruel as they grow large and are extremely high waste producers.

Thanks folks, I might rehome the fish or get a bigger and better tank. I seriously did not know they needed so much space.

Hubby bought an Elite Cool 14 kit by Hagen, which says 3 goldfish can be kept in it. These kits are marketed at small kids and for sale in all pet shops and the shops happily sell the fish. We bought the fish in good faith.

cheers

Hi Chloe. I know it's absolutely awful and in the first instance not your fault for believing what's written on the box. In reality however such tanks should never be sold or marketed as such. And anyone who not merely keeps fish, but provides care for fish would have done some further reading and any text book or reputable internet source would say the same thing.
Good luck though - if you wish to pursue fishkeeping, this is an excellent forum to joing and get advice and guidance from!
