Hi all,

I've recently read a post that I might not have my external cannister filter setup correctly for a planted aquarium. I have a Fluval 404 and I am using the sponge, mechanical filter, carbon pouches then finally bio material.

Should I remove the carbon in my planted aquarium? I heard someone mention it will soak up all the iron in my water my plants need.

Thanks for the input and any recommendations you can offer.

J.

Yes I do believe carbon will eat up nutrients you add to your tank, I run a pair of filters in my tank, and both are just filter only, and my tank is happy and healty. I personally run two filters for bacteria reasons, I clean mine out at opposite times so one always has a healty bacteria.
