Filter Media Suggestions

i am struggling with the whole filtration thing. i have done a bunch of reading but need a few days to let it soak in , lol.

any way. i would like some suggestions or what you guys use for filter media. I have a 120 us gallon tank with the following filters.

two Marineland Emperor 400, each filter holds two mesh covered cartridges woth carbon and two refillable extra media containers

one Tetratech 300, holds a sponge, a bag of carbon and a bag of media balls.

i am looking for the best possible media for my tank to stay its healthiest.I am currently cycling it so maybe suggestions on during and after cycle is complete.

carbon is useless after a week, it removes the bad chemicals and becomes full; filterfloss also polishes the water

the sponge and bioballs is where thhe breakdown of the poop chemicals is i believe
