I am going to be using LR for my filtartion in my imminent marine setup and I'm also getting a Deltec MC500 skimmer aswell, and another powerhead., so I am planning on using the internal filter in my Juwel Vision 180 for an extra powerhead.

I then thought about using the internal filter to house some carbon or phosphate remover filter media aswell maybe seeing as its built in, is that a good idea?

You can buy carbon filters and nitrate removal filters designed for the internal filters already (please see below), do you think these would be of benefit or not?

Carbon sponge

Nitrate removal sponge

Cheers,

The Carbon is a good idea however the NO3 remover I thought I herd somewhere they don't work in SW set-ups. might be wrong.

Can anybody recommend anything other filter media that would be useful to stick in there as there is space?

Phosphate remover? another form of nitrate remover (doed this exist?)?

there are some phosphate removers that work in SW, Green X is one example, there may be others.

I would be tempted to leave it empty for now but just safe in the knowledge you have it there and can add things like the carbon or phosphate removers as and when you need them.

don't try to second guess what the problems will be cos you may end up using valuable space to treat a problem that doesn't exist. I'd just leave it for now and leave your options open.

:)

since you're in the UK, Rowaphos. That stuff rocks. Too bad it costs a billion bucks in the states :(

Yer phosphate remover is a def one to have in there. i also have purigen by seachem it tkaes out the nitrogen cycle its insane stuff a £20 pot runs for up to 6 months and treats like 250 gallons.

When you say nitrogen cycle, you mean it removes nitrates, as the live rock should be converting the ammonia and nitrites to nitrates? In which case it sounds good ;)
