hi i have just set up a juewl lido 120 tank, i used to have a 5 foot marine tank before with a sump, but i cant really set up a sump on this tank, do i need a filter in the tank? i have a deep sand bed and a fair bit of live rock and change 10% of water every week. the water seems to be a bit cloudy. thanks

Would still suggest a sump, but otherwise I would get a HOB skimmer or even a HOB refugium (those are neat).

i would add a sump but its a lot of work for a small tank. whats a hob?

Its a hang on back refugium. A sump isn't necessary, nor is a protein skimmer as you are performing regular water changes. Just out of interest, what are your ammonia/nitrite levels? I have a nano tank and when I perform a water change, it can be a bit cloudy for a day or so, if the new saltwater isn't throughly mixed.

Try mixing your saltwater 2-3 days prior to doing the water change. This might be the source of your cloudiness.

Agree with AK.

Plus: you should really be doing a water change of between 20 and 25% weekly if you are not running a skimmer. By the way, you could add deltec mce 300 to that tank, you could then run phospate remover in the skimmer.

As I am very nosey, how much live rock do you have, how long has the tank been set up and what is the stocking and most of all.........................where are the photos  :p

Its true. I have gone as far as buying blackout blinds and electrifying my fence. I was going to dig a moat around my house, but then she started bugging me as to what livestock I was going to fill it with -_-

my tank doesnt look much at the moment as i only have live rock and a few fish, nothing compaired to my old tank which is why i want a bigger tank again. i will post some pics later of my old tank and this one if you want.
