So i have been going through HOB filters like its my job. Which is the best one?? Also, would picking an oversized filter help in a planted tank and get clogged less? Should I try a canister filter? If so, how much are they and what type should I try? What are my options?! This is driving me crazy

Are you based in America or Uk?

IMO HOB filters normally aren't as good as internal canister filters or external canister filters.

If you want to stock the tank quite heavily then go for an external. I have an Eheim 2026 on my 33 US Gal (125l) tank.
It cost me £72 from Ebay.

If you wanted an internal then I wouldn't recommend anything other than the Fluval + range. Or the Fluval U range.
I personally have only have experience with the + range, but trust fluval filters completely.
On a 30gal heavily planted I'd probably go for the 4+ with the spray bar attachment.

I've never had a fluval external. But I've heard mainly good things about them.
And also that is what I'd have bought if I hadn't seen the Eheim for the exact same price! (Although I'd have bought the 305)

So yeah, looks good. :good:

Ive heard that fluval externals are noisey and unreliable, youll find that tetratec or eheim is the way to go as they're more reliable and easier to repair. Myself, i prefer tetratec.

PM rabbut as he has some good info on externals...
