Can anyone reccomend a small filter for a small 5 gal tank? I know about sponge filters, but I would rather use a standard type, just a mini version? Is this possible? Mainly because mu air pump is just so #41#### noisy!

Thanks in advance!

That filter from the link you posted seems like it would be fine as it's goes up to 25 litres, don't see a problem seeing as you have a 5 gallon which works out to around 22 litres.

That filter seems to be the replacement for the hagen elite mini. I have that in my betta's 25 litre tank, and it's perfect for it. The mini has just one sponge as its medium; the marina one in the link has a cartridge containing zeolite and carbon. If I got the marina filter, I would swap the cartridge for a filter sponge, any make cut to the same size and shape as the cartridge. I don't use carbon and I wouldn't use zeolite in any of my filters - its purpose is to absorb ammonia, and as it is first in line in the water flow in the marina filter there will be none left to get the bacteria to grow further in.
