Hi all

I will soon be making my own 85 gallon tank and would like to tap into your vast knowledge and experience. :good:

The tank will be planted so I have done my homework on the lighting front but I am still at a loss as to the best method of filtration.

I have been looking at the Fluval FX5. Will this be ok?

Also your personal preferences would be welcomed.

TIA

mmmm big filter not so big tank. but yea it would work. i would personally recomend 2 305s at opposite ends of the tank.

fx5 will work great though. if u do use it put the pick up tube on the opposite or as close to the other end of the tank as u can from the outlet.

I also thought the FX may be a little big for my requirements.

Also, as my tank is to be fit in an alcove, I am limited for space around the tank.

Will the 305's be ok in a cupboard beneath the tank? At £60 + each for a 305 (and it's negative review), the FX may be the more cost effective option.

Has anyone else any thoughts please?

You may want to give some thought to 2 Filstar xP2's. I am a real believer in 2 filters on a tank. If one decides to pack up, you are not dead in the water. (Pun intended.) Also. over filtration is not sin.
Cheers;
