i've been keeping fish for only six months and am having a great time! though a few of my fish have died, the aquarium is pretty stable right now and have added slightly harder to keep fish.

my quandary is about the filter. i live in india. and the neighbourhood i live in is extremely dusty. i have an undergravel filter, however the pump (which is unservicable) seems to have given up altogether and only a small stream of bubbles flow. instead of buying a pump which costs about Rs 90 ($2) i have considered investing in a power filter which costs about Rs 450 ($10). how reliable are power filters? and is my decision correct?

when you say power filter do you mean an internal filter?

From what I hear UG filters aren't that efficient and are dated. There are a number of filters on the market that would do well with you.

at the moment I am using a fluval 4 internal filter on my 28 gallon, and it works a treat although I am upgrading to an external one soon.

what size is your tank?

my tank is about 35 ltrs. the thing is an internal filter would look awful in a tank as small as mine. what kind of options do i have in terms of internal filters?
