Hi all, I'm contemplating a planted aquarium. For this purpose, I have an Aqua One AR510; 75 litres (roughly 20 gallons) 51x34x56 cm. For those unfamiliar with it, the built-in hood provides a wet/dry trickle filter system with carbon, filter wool, sponge pad and ceramic noodles. A 750L/hr powerhead sits inside the tank. Would this filter be okay for a planted aquarium, or should I upgrade to something more appropriate. If so, what?

Appreciate your replies :)

Ditch the carbon and it will likely be more than adequate.

Try an aquaclear hob filter. They last for ever, are easy to use. I've never had good experiences with built-in hood filters.

Yeh remove the carbon it'll remove iron and other things from the water which the plants need. Also, I think the trickle bit is meant to help remove NO3? Which is another important nutrition for plants, it'll also remove CO2. It does seem a shame to have to get a new filter, but it sounds like you'll have to. An external would a good choice, say an eheim.
