hi there ive got a film come on top of my tank water after changing the setting on my fluval u3 filer to the bottom outlet what is it and also can some one give some advise on the settings on the filter thanks dave

The film on the water surface is protein and oils from the fish. You can point a powerhead at the water surface to break it up, or get a filter equipped with a surface skimmer. I can't help you with your filter though. HTH.

I had the same for a while, done nothing special and it seems to have cleared. It may be that tetra have improved their feed or an increase in plants in the tank may be absorbing more stuff... who knows?

i have the same thing, mine makes the surface look cloudy. my tank is only 2 months old so hope it will clear up on its own like above have said. my filter only breaks up the corner it is in buy my filter is 4 inches under the water.

More surface movement will help. So by changing your U3 to the bottom outlet, you're losing out on that, aswell as oxygenating the water.
