Having just made it to Aquajardin in time yesterday and buying/collecting the Humphead Glassfish I've had my heart set on for several months, they have teased me with another gorgeous little glasfish that has come into stock!

PFK has a small article on them, saying they reach <4cm; best in heavy planted tanks; very shy and need peaceful small tankmates if mixed at all etc. etc.

However, it does not suggest what size tank is suitable for these guys...

Does anyone (probably called Neale ;) ) have any more info on them and whether I could seriously entertain keeping them with my Indian Red Tail Squirrel Loaches (Aborichtys elongatus) in the Korrall60, please?

Indeed, broadly accurate. They're blackwater fish not dissimilar in requirements to things like dwarf rasboras or the smaller South American tetras.

Most anything small and peaceful. Glassfish are finicky feeders, so that's going to be an issue, and there's no point keeping them with anything in the midwater that's more aggressive at feeding. Boraras rasboras would be good, or Badis and Dario perches; at the bottom I'd be looking at kuhli loaches and perhaps the smaller Corydoras, such as Corydoras hastatus.

I don't know Aborichthys elongatus so can't comment from experience. But by analogy with the larger glassfish, which mix fine with non-aggressive loaches, I'd expect them to get along well with any small loach species assuming water chemistry and temperature requirements were similar. With that said, my gut feeling is that these hillstream loaches will not be happy in the same conditions as the glassfish. There will be differences in water temperature and flow rate than I suspect will mean one or the other would be stressed.

Cheers, Neale

Thanks for insight and thoughts as ever, Neale, its given me something to ponder...

The Korrall60 currently has the Koralia 1 powerhead and Juwel 1000 l/hr pump connected to the Jewel 3 (basic) compact filter, so there's a fair water current in there, which is not quite as intense having added two excess bunches of Cambomba from the Rio240 plus the smaller piece of bogwood (with two Anubias barteri nanas and a third section of a Java Fern mother plant).

I've just had a ceromonial "unleashing" of my seven Pearl Danio fry into the Korrall60, six of which are now ~two months old and the other is ~3 weeks old. So far, they seem to be loving it after being in a breeder net and it will give me a chance to see a social side (or otherwise) of the Aborichtys.
