Hi guys! :good: as you can see im new to the forum so any help at all would go greatly appreciated.

I have had my eye on this puffer now for a while and im very interested in starting a tank around this puffer. I have done some research on this fish but what i have found is really confusing me. I know to preferably keep them in brakish water which is what i am planning on doing but i can,t find answers to these couple of questions.

How many figure 8's can be kept together in the same tank?

and what other fish are best kept with them if any?

My tank size will be about 120L

As i said any information from past experience would be very appreciated. :)

Oh and finally, be sure to enjoy them! They're great fish.

Hey there

This post is probably better suited in the brackish section, but you can still get some answers here before it's moved no doubt.

Figure 8 puffers are brackish fish, so adding MARINE SALT to increase the salinity of the water would be a great start.

Puffers have personalities that vary, some nip at fins, some don't, some can be housed with other fish, some can't. Some people have success keeping them with things like Knight gobies and Mollies, other people struggle to keep them with anything. If you do decide to mix them, make sure you choose brackish fish, or salt tolerant fish.

120l is about 30-ish gallons right? With that, if you overfilter and are strict with maintenance, you might be able to keep a trio (like i say, they're unpredictable). Puffers are messy creatures, so be aware of that early on. Also be aware that most won't eat prepared foods, so you'll need frozen foods in your freezer for a trio of fish. Some people find that an issue, or more likely, their partners don't like having to sift through bloodworm and shelled cockles to find dinner...
