just wanted to know if it is normal for tinfoil barbs to fight and bounce of each other with all fins erected with mouths open. there about 4 -6 ich in a 4ft tank :shout:

That sound normal, its prob males fighting over females or space in the aquarium. It should settel down soon.

Hope all goes well.

Thanks i'll just keep an eye out and see how they go, its just the first time they've done it since i've had them so thought something was wrong.

Thanks for the reply.

how many do u have?

and u say they are about 4-6 inches big?

how often do you feed? and are you generous?
i have noticed after keeping my barbs (i have 12 of them) if they get hungry they start to get a little aggressive.

also tinfoil barbs are some of the most agressive barbs you can get, they will fight regardless on and off.

Do you give them veg matter in their diet! If they dont have it they sometimes get bothered and start to fight!

I have 6 altogether, 3 are 4-6ich and the other 3 are about 2ich. i feed them on bloodworm, catfish pellets, high growth crushed pellets, tropical fish food and cuecumber/corhjet(bad spelling)

i feed them every 2 days but sometimes every 3 days.

you have a a gd number for them to shoal (maybe get another 2 to up the numbers a little though if you have room), so i surpose its barbs being barbs rearly :D

They are not aggressive fish but that kind of "sparring" is perfectly normal and they do generally do better in groups of 3 or more. They will eventually outgrow your 4 ft tank though and really need at least a 5 ft and preferrably a 6ft tank when they reach adult size.

I would feed them daily.. just feed a little less.

and ferris you say keeping 6 of them your going to need a 6ft tank? thats quite a large tank length wise. I have 12 tiger barbs in my 4 foot tank(65 gallons)

Tiger barbs don't grow over a foot long, Tinfoils do.

Thanks for the info guys. I need to get a 6ft tank but my missus wont let me just yet as she wants to go on holiday next year.

i'll try feeding them a little every day. But will this make my water bad, as my tap aint that good you see and it hasn't been raining 4 a while.
