two of our hillstream loaches have very recently changed colours, their fins have gone much...blacker for want of a better word, and they appear to have started what looks like fighting each other. they circle and headbutt each other off a rock column. Are they fighting, and has the colour change got anything to do with this?

the third hillstream loach seems not to care about them very much...

thanks

Nik.

Sounds like a territorial issue between two males. Try rearranging the tank and see if that helps.

My 2 hillstream loaches seem to get on very well together.

They like to hide at the bottom of the filter box and they seem to huddle up to each other

(i meant the underneath of the filter box) :p

half the time they seem to be in perfect harmony, the rest trying to kill each other. are fish known to playfight?

They do have plenty of room, so territory shouldn't be that much of an issue, especially as they were fighting over the least sheltered bit of the tank

Thanks again,

Nik

Probably the misses trying to kick him out
Because shes having an affair with the third unbothered one? :p

I'd agree with Black Angel, as long as they aren't causing each other harm it is nothing to worry about.
