Hi,

Finally got my internet back up and running and I ran into a few problems/questions I was wondering if I could have some help for. I just the other day noticed a snail on mj tank and found another today. I have NO idea where they came from as I have not gotten any new fish in the past 3 weeks and have only been doing water changes basically. I put a peice of weighted driftwood in but I dont think aquatic snails could have come off that as I found it in the woods a long time ago.

Secondly I have 2 peppered cory's. They have been swimming at the top of the tank and at the middle, for months they have been on the bottom, so I'm wondering if they are stressed/not getting enough food or if they are just becoming more active.

Thanks for any help, you guys usually are pretty good!

The snails can hitch rides on plants. If you use the same gravel-vac for different tanks, they can be transfer that way.

If you've been feeding the cories, they're probably getting active. When they get in groups they become more active too.

Thats the thing I only use my vacuum on the one tank and I havent bought a new plant for that tank in over a month.

Cories are fairly tough so I'm sure they're okay I just lost a pleco recentely so I was a bit worried.

I have just discovered snails in a tank that couldn't have come from an outside source........mad??? No plants, only fine gravel......that was washed through with boiling water, and lots of bogwood that was boiled too.
My answer to pesky snails are any of the botia species of loaches...they enjoy them as part of their diet.
Your cories are just becoming a bit more adventurous........gorgeous fish.....even better when you have a shoal!! :D

I found some snails in my tank today and I havent added plants for ages eitehr :dunno:

my dad reckons their eggs can sometimes take a long time to hatch. either thant or the adult snails were brought in with plants and i just havent noticed them till now.....although i wouldve thought they'd've reproduced...ho hum.

Got some snails through plants as well, and its been 3 weeks since I saw them and they don't seem to multiply at all... They don't grow physically either, so I assume they are fully grown. I thought they multiply like crazy???

last tiem I had pest snails they took over the whole tank. I also have some in a plant-only tank that are breeding really fast. but I have only noticed a couple in the main tank.

mine are about 3-4mm as adults and 1mm "newborn".
