ok well i really like the sound of having a trickle filter on my 100gal. but first i need to find out some information that i'm struggling to find on the web:

1)Does an aquarium have to be drilled to have a trickle/sump filter?
2) are they noisy?
3) for 100g what pump would i need? also does this affect the diameter of the pipe used?
4) what capacity would i require for a 100g
5) any one with knowledge of a juwel rio 400 cabinet, would this have enough room in the compartments to fit an adequate filter?
6) is it worth swapping my fx5 for a trickle filter?

thanks again.

thankyou eagle eyed members :D

There is no need to drill a tank in order to use an external sump setup. The salty people do this all the time. What they use is a simply designed overflow system that can both respect some minimum tank level and also provide lots of flow to a sump. Although I recently saw a lecture and demonstration of such a system, I would rather that you post on the saltwater part of the forum for systems that they use for a fixed level to supply a sump system. We here on the freshwater side of things are not nearly as well versed on overflows that require a separate design as the salty folks are.
