I never realised females made bubble nests as well....how comes they do this?

My little Cloey made one last night, too.
Amazingly - because she's sitting on the top of my entertainment center, in an unheated little ball jar half full of water. Waiting for her nice new 78 degree planted tank. Maybe she knows where she's going.

hello...yea u helped me the other day...i she has dropsy (or so i think) so i took her out she did this....im suprised how big she made it too 4 by 5 inches

I don't think anyone answered the question because its something of a "no one knows." We could speculate many things; a dominant female (much like dominant female dogs will display male sexual behaviors like mounting), a female who wishes to breed, a behavior caused by the depravation of mating behaviors, etc. My female only bubblenests when she's next door to a male. I can't tell if she's showing eagerness to mate, or if she is trying to show him up.
