I know females don't make bubblenests, but I have a strange, simple question... Are the CAPABLE of making bubblenests? I have 2 for-sure females in my community tank, been there for 2 days... And the top of the tank is COVORED in what looks like a bubble nest that has been badly disturned by my filter. Little shunks of dense bubbles, and a widesoread low group of bubbles... It really looks like a big bubblenest! Is this jsut a biproduct of their regular breathing from the top and such, or was the making of these bubbles intentional? They are defenitly from the bettas.

Sure. They're just not generally any good at it. My female makes loads of bubbles, but they don't stick together.

Sure females can make bubblenests!

Here is one Rose made, she guarded it for a day and then promptly dropped all her eggs and ate them

Some females are better at it than others, but as OohFeeshy pointed out, the female's bubbles don't stick as well as the male betta's do.

I read an article one breeder wrote where she had the male/female spawn, then left the female in to see if she would care for the babies in the same way! The female did try her best at first, but because her bubbles weren't manufactured the same way as the male's, the eggs kept falling until finally she just ate them up.
