I have 2 marigold and 1 red wag female swordtails. they are with a male marigold. the 3 females usually give birth fine but the last time one of my marigolds gave birth she started to act strangely-she never leaves the top of the tank. this started about 10 weeks ago and hasnt gotten any better, does antone know what could be wrong.

do you have anything to oxygenate the water?

yes, i have a fluval 2+ filter which also oxygenates the water. Anyway, my swordtail died because of this recently, as did a platy who had just given birth and had the same symtoms, only she died far quicker. I have 2 pregant swordtails, a pregnant platy, a pregnant guppy and a pregant molly in this same tank and as its only after the fish give birth they die, I am worried some of them may catch this unknown disease. Does anyone know how I could diagnose and cure it?

are you sure its some kind of disease. many female fish when pregnant often become very stressed when giving birth, some females will handle it better than others depending on the amount of fry they are carrying. stress will easily kill a female sometimes before they even give birth. it may just be this, some survive others not, i had a guppy who gave birth next day she died, and one of my platys has just givin birth but is fine.
