whats pk and vt? (Just trying to learn some things)

Must say though - Stunning Fish!

To me it looks like it has ct in it somewhere along the line although i'm no expert on female tail types at all!! I've got a couple of ct females similarly coloured to yours, i think yours is beautiful.

She looks like a comb tail to me, pretty little thing! Her ventricals almost make her look male but she has an ovi spot I can see (some young males have them) but its likely she's a girl. I'd say female combtail plakat

yes she does have crowntail in her and i know she carries plakat as her bother was a plakat but both parents were vt, but she does look to be combtail plakat, which is great for me as im about to try breeeding some crowntail-plakats

I dunno, I'd actually say combtail VT because the rays only split once... VT has two branches, PK generally has four.

Actually Laura Half Moon Plakats have four ray branches your right but noramal Plakats have two ray branches like a VT but as you can see her anal fin is pointy and extended and she's a bit more stocky! pointing towards at Plakat.

I would be inclined to breed her with a male with strong CT genetics or strong genetics of another tail type such as HMPK as VT is a dominant gene and although she is a plakat she will probably be carrying the VT gene which you would want to avoid if trying to produce crowntail plakats. She looks like a good female for that breeding project though! would be great if you could get hold of a HMPK with the CT gene! (gold dust!)
:good:

she would be a veil tale.
BTW: young fisher VT stands for veil tale and pk stands for plakat

Squire, I think we just got told ;) it's a plakat.

So PK can actually carry VT? That seems a bit odd... I thought that VT was dominant over PK, so for a fish to be a PK it had to be vv, and a veiltail could be VV (veiltail) or Vv (veiltail carrying plakat).
I thought it was one of the only true dominant genes on Planet Betta, because most of the others seem to be either intermediary or codominant. (And annoying.)

So the extra split in HMPK comes from halfmoons used in the breeding? (HM having eight rays)

I believe its a VT (veiltail) purely based on the anal fin which is triangular and longer than would be expected of a PK. I would expect the anal fin to be more rectangular on a PK. Obviously somewhere, someone has used CT in the line.

As regards the genetics, i gave up trying to work that out following our FT (feathertail) x HM (halfmoon) spawn. It threw out Pk's and VT's
What you have to bear in mind is that whether it be VT, HM, DT, they all originally came from the same place, the PK. There are no definates in breeding bettas :good:

Well as bronze says squire might be right I find her very confusing!

Not to say what I was saying about the branching isnt true - but having both VT parents and VT being a dominant gene as mentioned it would be weird for her not to be VT but I thought her anal looked pointy like a PK. What I had totally forgotton  and bronze points out is that all bettas started off Plakat! so of course she may well be a VT that has elements of a PK. I think she's just one difficult to pin down girl! but as i said if you do breed her and she is or has some VT I would get a boy with strong genes of something else. I would have said the last red/orange female on the website was a PK so shows what i know! -_-
How confusing!
Also Laura its my understanding that VT is pretty much dominant over anything including PK but bronze or Netty will know for sure
