gday,
just wondering how well, female betta's do in community tanks. Are they aggressive at all? My tank is a 40gall and it has platies, neons, corys, angels, guppies and some swordies soon, maybe. If not females, then how would a single male go, as it is a while since ive had one im not sure if it would live happily or not :dunno:
cheers.

Hi sja :)

I've made the mistake of putting a female betta in a community tank with guppies before, she was alright with some of the fish, except for the guppy's. Bettas will attack guppies (or any other fish with flowing fins) and let me tell you, it is not a pretty sight

I believe the angelfish won't go with bettas either, I think they become aggressive with bettas, I'm not too sure though, hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong :p

Ah, doesn't really matter, you'll have carnage in your tank before long anyway. Just wait till those angels get big enough to eat all the other fish in your tank, then the bettas will be the least of your worries...

Well yes i do realise that the angles do get bigger and get aggressive, especially when spawning, but i should have another tank berfore the reach maturity. And i do dout that the angles would eat 'everthing' in the tank. And i was posting to see if betta's can go in their, a simple yes because.... or no because......
would have been fine !!!!!!!
thanks.

Really? The only thing in your tank that might not be dinner eventually are the cories.

If a yes or no answer is all you wanted, the answer is no. You angelfish will be agressive towards it, the guppies may also be hurt by the betta.

Females can be just as aggressive as their male counterparts, simply depends on the fish.

As for your attitude, you're the one who is keeping angelfish with their natural prey, neon tetras. If you don't like the answers you get in response to it, perhaps you should word your posts differently. There was no indication in your original post that you were planning on rehousing the angels.

Soz, i no i didnt say anything about re-homing the angels, They are only babies , at the moment. And i do realise that they will eat the neons, eventually. Now i dont mean to be rude but are you saying that they would eat platies , swordtails, and i did forget to mention (mollies). And i dont mean a simple answer of 'no because', i meant 'No because they will pick in the guppies and get attackted by the angels.

Guppies, absolutely. Swordtails, yes. You'd be surprised what a determines angel can fit in its mouth, Many, many moons ago I lost a full grown swordtail that way. I'm assuming they kill first, then eat when they're attacking prey that big, but I'm not sure. All I saw of it was a tail sticking out of a very full angelfish. -_- Because of this, I would assume they can eat the others - especially when they get over 6",

If they're juvies, you probably have a while, though. But I still wouldn't add bettas to the mix. Treat yourself to a 2.5 gallon and a betta for that.

I dont dout u, but ive never heard of that, especially how swordies get to a good size, and how small the angles mouths are,i would say that they kill them first. My angels are about 5 cm big. Im not sure about getting a 2gallon tank for a betta, as it dosent seem much of a life, especially when i cannot keep the water at an even temperature...
