Female Black Phantom Tetra

I have had doughts about what these fish were since my husband picked them out at the fish store. They look just like phantom tetras except the anal fin is not black but red and they don't have that characteristic black patch on their gills. So I was wondering do female black phantom tetras lose that patch or do I have some other type of tetra.
