i know males can live in colder water... but what about the females?

i have a crappy heater that can only go up or down.. no thermostat... so sometimes the tank is cold... especially at night.. i dont turn it on then cause i figure its better being cold than burnt to death...

will they be ok in the colder water?

i could invest $15 on a heater... but i dont have a lot of money or a job right now so spending is on the low if ya kno what i mean..

i separated the 10 gallon tank for the 2 pairs... 1 pair seems interested in each other.... the other pair are pretty lifeless.... still feedin them the good food to wake em both up... but itll take time i know so im bein patient.. well tryin to be lol

I've actually heard that females do better in cooler water than males. However, wuv is right - it depends on how cold!

Both male and female need to be in 74 degree Faranheit or warmer (up to 85) to be happy and healthy, anything cooler for either sex and it could lead to lower immune system and lethargic fish.

ill stick a thermometer in tonight and see how cold it actually does get.... im sure its lower than 74... probably around 65 at night... might have to invest $15 eeeep

have to go to bank and see if i have 15$ to spare for my betta bananas

Yikes, yes 65 is too low for them, it wouldn't necessarily kill them overnight, but it would definetly make them prone to sickness and would not be happy at all.

1 of the males died overnight :(

hmmm... dont think it was cause of cold water cause he been in it for awhile... i raised the temp to like 75 then turned heater off overnight... so it dropped... maybe that did it.... ill have to pay $15 and get a cheapo thermostat heater on this next weekend.... also changed all my fish from tank to tank... now got convicts and firemouths in the 20 and the guppies in the 10 and the tetras/other livebearers in another 10 woohoo

:fish:

Temperature fluctuations (especially quick ones) can definetly cause harm to your Betta (or any fish for that matter). It could be that his immunity was down from the cooler temperature.

Sorry about your loss :(

ill spend $20 this weekend... hopefully only $20.... $15 on a heater and $5 on a new betta and some other fish since theyre always 2 for 1.... maybe another male for a bowl in my room or something........ i still havent been to the bank in awhile so i donno how much $$$ i have... i have a $20 in my wallet and like $20 in change i think so i can spend that then its off to the bank to get my last bit of money until i get a job !!! woohoo

i found out how to turn flash off on camera... so i should get good pics finally...

i also found out 1 of my pokemon cards... that i used to collect when i was in gr 8 ... im now graduated and found out 1 is worth $80 american so im selling it on ebay.... with the money i get i can combine it with parents $$ and hopefully get around a 70 gallon bowfront hopefully :D

then i can buy some jack dempseys woo... i wont feed guppy fry to them tho dont worry :D
