I've just set up a new Betta tank, and I'm trying to decide BOY or GIRL. I currently have a male, named Miki. Are the females as personable as the males?

It's just a five gal., so unfortunately I can only have one...

You can only have one. Then i would get another male as a show fish.

Females are nice fish but not quite the same if u can only host 1 fish.

I just brought Marty home(decided on a male Crowntail)...It was a harrowing experience for both of us. While the staff member was bagging him, he dropped him on the floor. The guy then picked him up by the tail, and dropped him AGAIN!!! Poor Marty was picked up by the tail, for the second time, and dropped into the bag. :grr: I know I probably should have chosen another fish, but I didn't have the heart to leave him, after all that... he's in the tank now...looking pretty good. I'll take pics later, when he's settled...

I didn't give the staff member a hard time, as he's just filling in, and was extremely apologetic....

sorry but i would not buy a dropped fish let alone twice!

Get some melifix in there just to help stop any infections then loss of slime may allow to get in.

I know...I normally wouln't buy a dropped fish either. I just felt so sorry for him. If he doesn't make it, he can't be any worse off, than if I'd left him there....

I've read that Melafix is not recommended for Bettas, because of the labyrinth organ? I've used Bettafix, as it's much weaker...

I've not heard that but as it's a oil based treatment then i guess it may.

Thanks

So, in a way females are social? I was planning on getting one female betta, but now that you say that....

Females can still have a nip ad mood swings like any fish, but you can host several easy fish. but it only takes 1 nasty femlae to shread all their fins.
So i would only get a couple at a time so i now what each of their temperaments are like.

yh in a 60liter how many female bettas can i have with guppies

personaly i would not keep any females with guppies for the same reason in my post above.

I think I'm going to have to euthanize him....he's really not looking good.

return him to the shop and try to get a refund as he was dropped.
