hi! greta forum, ive been looking about this for a while and found it quite useful, this is my first post. ive recently set up a tank, cycled and made sure everything was correct to add fish, i bought 2 female betta and a week later bought 3 albino corydora's. theyve been living together happily for a few weeks now. i was looking in my tank a few days ago and seen one of my female betta lying on the gravel at the bottom in the corner almost on its side, it sat there for a few minutes then it start swimming about as normal, it is doing this quite often in the same spot all of the time, should i be worried?? thanks shaun, keep up the good work :)

Welcome to the forum!

By cycled, you mean fish-in or fish-less until Ammonia and Nitrite read '0',yep?

Do you have the current water stats? Ideally female bettas should be kept in groups of 5 or more to calm aggression. How big is the tank?

thanks for the reply

yeah i did a fishless cycle, i'm not sure of the water stats atm, the ph is fine and ive been doing weekly water changes. ive seen no signs of aggresion between the females at all, and the tank is 10 gallon.

Bettas do normally tend to 'chill out' more than other fish, so atm, i wouldn't worry. though i would advise Live Plants if you haven't got any atm, as betta love them, they use them as shelter as well as using the leaves to rest on.

:good:

yeah i've got a few live plants in the tank, not sure of the names tho :|, my corys have been eaten some of them :S is this normal aswell, i'm not sure as i'm a newbie to this lol, i'll keep an eye out on my female aswell thanks for your help :)

Hi and welcome!

You say you cycled - how did you do it? With pure ammonia? Do you have a test kit?

Female bettas are also not suitable for keeping in pairs and corys should be in groups of 6, ideally. The female could have been bullied by the other girl. The females are still very aggressive fish. If you want females, keep them individually or in groups of 4 or more (ideally 6+).

If you have a test kit, test your water. If a fish is sick, a good measure is to seperate it (if possible) into a second tank/tub where you can medicate (if needed) and keep it from being stressed or infecting the others. Also, do a large water change on the tank. This'll help get any nasties out of the water.

The girl might just be chilling out, but that doesn't mean everything is OK. The two girls could start fighting at any moment. Please get more or seperate the two you have.
