Female battling the filter

Every 30 minutes or so I hear a thrashing and then I look over to see one of my females with really heavy horizontal bars right below the filter. Well, today I caught her and she was stuck in the red circle in the picture, half out of the water.

What can I do to stop this?

I know the filter is dirty, I'll clean it

Maybe you could wrap some netteing around it so it's not accessible to her?

Good idea, but I wonder why she wants up there so bad?

I have a girly girl too and she does almost the same thing. Rather than getting on the filter she hangs out right beneath the filter. I have a male that does the same thing too! I think they love the current. They're always swimming against it.
