Our LFS told us to alternate between flakes and granule type food (vipan/vipagran) on a daily basis and to only give the fish 1/4 teaspoon every day. When we get home from work we feed the fish (approx. 17:30) and they are ravenous. The silver-tipped tetras eat all the food leaving little for the black tetras. We tried feeding them 1/8 teaspoon twice a day and they didn't seem as ravenous. Will this hurt them? Don't want to overfeed.

The pump seems to make the food flow around the tank okay but the black tetras won't come out of the plants. The silver-tipped tetras (must find a shorter way of typing that!) are out of their starting blocks at the first sight of food.

Should I stick to what the LFS is telling me or should I give little and often?

i always try to put alittle more food then i need in there so some makes it down to my corys. all you have to do is clean out the uneaten food after a couple minutes.

hungry fish are healthy fish

fish don't starve like we do if they eat less, they are cold blooded. If your tetras are not hunting down for food, it means they are not hungry or they are getting enough as it is. I wouldn't feed more just to make sure they have some.

I feed some floating granules/pellets to my tetras and my female betta eats it too. my cories howver only come out at night. I throw some bottom feeder pellets once in a while in there for them, they've been fine for months. I will also throw in some frozen food everyday in there for the betta. of course all the fish eat it and the cories must find some at night.
