Has anyone ever fed their goldfish oranges? I've seen the petstores do this once a week or so with their goldfish. I was just wondering why they would feed them this? What's it's purpose and how's it beneficial for the goldfish or is it just giving them something different to eat? :dunno:

:fish:

I tryed it on mine when I had them but didn't like them, plus they mess your water up.
Forgotten now why they feed oranges.

Has anyone else had expeirence with feeding their goldfish oranges or any other non-pellet food or flake food???

Basically, jus like you wouldn't want to eat potatoes all day long, fish get bored with their food. So it just adds a bit of variety.

Also, some fish, especially fancy goldfish breeds, get constipation and dried flake and pellet food doesn't help. Imagine having constipation and then eating lots of crisps on top of it, a lot of people like figs, prunes and other fruit and veg to keep them regular, same goes for your fish.

I'd recommend only trying small quantities at a time, incase your fish doesn't like it. (e.g. half a frozen skinned garden pea [thawwed] per fish). Then you can see what they like and what they don't. Remember all fish are different. My boyfriends clown loach liked sweetcorn, peas, tinned tomatoes and tuna! You can actually buy tinned sweetcorn and other vegetables for fish at places that sell fishing tackle. However, I find green giant just as affective. If they're in brine, salt or sugar water, I'd give them a rinse!

Have fun experimenting! B)

Yes I agree, it's just to feed some thing different. I feed my goldfish twice a day one day i feed them flakes then the other day i feed them granules then once a week i feed them peas. They love the peas so much, my fish are so alert they don't let any thing sink to the bottom uncluding fish poop.
