Okay, so what would be the best way to do this? Because obviously the water is heated?!

Shall i just run some warm water out of the tap and dechlorinate it?

Or do this and put my thermostat heater from the tank in there?

Orrrr take some water out of his tank and put that in his seperate tub and then just top up his tank whilst he's eating?

Also how shall i heat up water that is going into the tank during a water change? Obviously when it comes out of the tap its going to be pretty cold. Should i just take the heater out of the tank for a while and put it in the tub full of water ready for the tank? Don't want to risk the place where the turtle currently is getting too cold!

there is no reason what so ever to feed your turtlr in anouther tub it will only stress it out and becydes if its the mess ur worried about then u would have 2 take him out after you fed him lol as they dont poo as they eat...

also water changes depend on the size of ya tank?

i feed mine in the same tank,,,i get dried turtle food for them,,by the time they catch it is is all yummy for them,,a also tie wee pieces of meat on a string just above the water for them

or just chuck some frozen dillies (1 a day cut up) in the water :p also try and get the fish and its food on the filter flow 2 make ur turtle work for its food :D
keeps them active and well i know i shouldnt say it here but eventually ull prob concider live food and it will be ready to catch them if it already has 2 work for food :p (they benifit fom feeder fish in a big way)

Hi,My name is Sam and I've kept turtles for about 15 years. I am also a member of turtletimes.com. It can be a good idea to feed in a seperate tub / tank as this helps keep the water fresher for longer in the main tank. Unless the water is ice cold there is no need to heat it in the tub. The water temp in your tank should be around 22c so there shouldn't be too much of a shock. You have Yellow Bellied Sliders and these are very hardy and easy to keep - I wouldn't worry about it!Just a few more things...Do you keep the lid of the tank off? If not, you should do - humidity can lead to a respiratory illnessHow deep is your water? You should have it as deep as your tank will comfortably allow. Sliders are excellent swimmers from birth and pet shops often make the mistake of keeping them in a few inches of water. If you have it shallow then increase it an inch or two every other day - they'll love it!Do you have a UVB lamp?I would advise not to feed live food as they often harbour parasites.Sam :)me again...A ping-pong ball keeps turtles amused for hours!Sam :)

A ping pong ball? WOW that could be fun haha, sure the plastic doesn't contain anything dodgy? I've got the water up as high as possible so that the basking area is not too close to the lamps. Its about 10 inches deep atm, at least. Bit hard to keep the lid off because the tube lamp and the basking lamp is built into it? Hmm, may consider an air pump just to make sure. The tube lamp i have is Repti-sun 10.0 uvb and uva, which i've been told is the best. Should be, it cost me enough!

Well, instead of giving him live food i was considering giving him those mineral dusted crickets (Like zoo-meds?) instead. Just because i'm VERY squeamish lol.

For food, i'm going to give him one feeder a week yes? And then every day give him 2 pellets and some veg.

What my dad suggested doing was just putting him in a clear lunch box type tub and then putting floating that in the tank, so the water cannot go below temperature!? :good: seems like a good idea although i don't think i'll do that every day.

P.s water is 30 gallons and it takes ages to heat up. No idea how i'm going to do a full change to be honest lol. Advice there would be nice too

Hi again,

I really would just buy yourself a plastic tub (about the size of a washing-up tub in your sink.... Buy a new one though as there will be chemical traces in the one used for washing dishes) and add some de-chlorinated water and hey presto! I woun't worry too much - Yellow Bellies are very hardy turtles! :)

Get yourself a NEW bucket, mark it and tell everyone that it's yours and must NOT be used for anything else (ie washing cars!). Get yourself a syphon and simply remove a bucketfull of water every other day and simply fill it back up with tap water (roughly the same temp) and add your dechlorinator to the bucket (a normal bucket hold about 12/13 litres) and give it a stir. You can either simply pour the lot in or decant as much as you can with a jug and pour the remainder into the tank (I advise this as it avoids splashes etc). Do this every other day and combined witha good filter you shouldn't have a problem!

Ping-pong balls are great. If you're worried about chemicals then choose a white one, wash / sterilise and replace when you think it's getting a bit tired :)

One last thing... you do not have gravel in your tank do you??

Any probs just message me

Sam
