Feeding Shrimps

I know that amano shrimps eat algae and leftover food, but mine are living in my betta tank and I don't think that the bettas leave much food, and I am trying to supplement their diet a bit. I have tried them with algae tablets, which they love, and I'm wondering if they would be OK with JMC catfish pellets as well? Anything else I could add too?

I find they will eat pretty much any pellet you drop-they're just scavengers.

They'll eat anything really. You could supplement their diet with special invert pellets like Hikari Crab Cuisine or JBL NovoPrawn (mainly for making sure they get enough calcium for their shells)

One word of warning on other fish food. Some fish food contain copper which is toxic to shrimps. It is the accumulative effect that will harm the shrimps long term so try to avoid those if you can.

I fed my fish some sinking pellets which i broke into bits and one of the shrimp decided he wasnt going to share with anyone and nabbed a half of one disk! hilarious to watch as the disk was bigger than his body!!!

Did not even give the fish a chance to eat.

Like other people have said they will eat anything.

When I kept some Anamo with my Betta I found if i just fed them 1 big pellet then one of the shrimp would grab it and swim off with it while the others chasing it. Although it was funny to watch (It looked like the shrimp was riding a unicycle ) I decided it was more fair to them to feed smaller pellets! I fed them 1 Hikari Crab Cuisine each per day.

It did make a little bit of difference to them chasing each other, but they would still run past one piece of food to try and steal a bit another shrimp was eating!

I've done some taste tests with my shrimp too, dropping a little bit of two different foods in at each end of the tank. They preferred the crab cuisine over Algae tablets and some generic catfish tablet i have. I know it wasn't that scientific but they always went to the Crab Cuisine end first!
