I bought five otos a week ago last Saturday and all but one seems to be doing pretty well. One looked skinny from the start, so I've been leaving zucchini in the tank to try to fatten him up a bit (or at the very least keep him alive). He does spend a lot of time on the zucchini while the others swim around and are doing a great job of keeping my plants and tank free of algae (except the black hair algae on one of the plants--oh well).

I've been swapping out the old zucchini for a new slice every 24 hours, but my tank has been perpetually cloudy. If I continue to keep zucchini in the tank will it eventually clear up, or do I need to remove it for that to happen. I've heard that the cloudiness won't harm the fish, but I really don't think the other fish are all too happy with the vegi smell & cloudiness. My hatchets are not eating nearly as much and the neons look mopey. Even my cories are hiding a lot more than before.

What should I do? I'm afraid if I take the zucchini out, the skinny, weak oto won't be able to compete with the other healthier/stronger otos for whatever is left of the algae, but if I continue to leave it in (replacing with new vegi every 24 hours), the other fish will be miserable and potentially become sick (if they continue not to eat). :shout:

You know, I remember fish-keeping to be much more fun when I was younger--there didn't seem to be so many issues!
