I'm away soon and have brought some feeder blocks but if you look at my fishes listed below I think a few of my fish will suffer. The automated feeders are tooooo expensive in the UK £25 a piece....x 2 Tanks. anyone got any good ideas/inventions for feeding standard food whilst away????

Thanks all

hmmm... you could get get someone to come to your house and feed them or just test out the feeders and keep a close eye on the fish you think will be affected. :look:

How long are you away? If it's less than 2-3 weeks, leave them. The chances of getting someone in who'll do it right are minimal, and the cost of these things which may or may not work is not worth it.

If I were you I would get someone in to feed them , that way they can check everything else is working. I always put measured amounts into a 35mm film cannister and leave one for each day you want them fed. But hide the large food pots so your friend can't think thats not enough and give them some more.

E-mail me if you want some film pots I'm a keen photographer so I've got some here if you want

David that's a GREAT idea about 35 film cases!!! I will remember to keep some for when we go away next!!!

The film holders is a great idea...maybe sample pots from the doctors would do also...I have someone who will feed them but they tend to over feed and the tank is awful when I come back.....I'm only away a few days so maybe the blocks will be ok......But I got Glass Catfish in one and a Lobster in the other I am worried about......we will see.....thenks for the replies.

I wouldnt trust those feeder blocks at all! If u can get someone to feed them that would be great! but if not i think u should buy a auto feeder it wold be worth it in the long run, if fish die on u you probaly will pay £25 to get new ones!!

This is a good point. Beside your fish needing to be fed, there are other things that need to be looked after.

For example, I've had a power failure stop my power filters. Most of them were ok and restarted when it came on again, but one lost it's water and burned itself out trying to restart. Evaporation, too, can lead to problems with the heater.

Also, if you plan to be away for any great length of time, the tanks will need cleaning, or at least water changes.
