Yesterday - after months of searching - I managed to get my hands on some embers. I've got eight of them. They were virtually clear at the shop (stress and hard-neutral water, no doubt) but in my soft-acid tank minus the boisterous fish they have turned pale orange overnight. They still look a bit freaked out, they are hanging in basically one spot in a very tight school but they are starting to spread out a little bit.

I'd like to get them as bright as possible; I have seen what these fish look like when they are healthy and well fed. There are shrimp in the tank and two pygmy cories (habrosus; I have room for two more if I can ever find them again.) At the moment I'm feeding Hikari sinking discs and algae wafers for the cories and shrimp. I haven't fed the embers yet but I'm planning to base their diet on NewLife Spectrum flakes, I dont' think they could manage even the small fish pellets. I'm pretty sure they are close to fully grown, they are about 2cm long so I'm not expecting them to get much bigger.

What do these little suckers eat in the wild? What else should I be including in their diet? I have almost anything you care to name. Frozen bloodworms, marine green, fresh vegies... my fish are WAAAAY spoilt.

Thanks

Hmmm.... Mine just eat Hikari Micro Pellets like all my other fish. I feed bloodworms too and they will eat the little bits. Frozen Baby Brine shrimp work better.

I got my hands on 7 today as well =D They were clear in the pet shop and I was unsure if they really were embers but the owner reasured me they were embers! So took em him put them in the tank closed all the lights left all the fish alone for 3 hours....came back slowly opening apt lights then the aquarium lights.

Tossed in some of the tetra flake food and the little buggers are already turning orange, swimming in a school and EATING LIKE MONSTERS! They are actually beating my white clouds to food  I have never sceen any of my fish EVER beat the white clouds... these littel tetras are such a pleasure to watch!

Congrats on the find I was looking for somethign else and stumbled on to them by accident but ha remembered reading they were really a rare find so snatched them up :)

Gonna have to look into getting some frozen blood worms now to make them really happy and make there colors shine!!
