Do I really need to feed my catfish any of their `own` food or do they get enough cleaning up after the normal feed for the community? they always look nice and busy hoovering the gravel. I have 2 corys in a 90 ltr.

Thanks, Mark.

You should feed them, yes.

They may look like they are constantly "hoovering" but alot of that is "search" and not "eat".

stick an algae wafer in every couple of days.

My 4 corys love 'em.

Mine are in a community tank and they also eat the left overs of any bloodworm feed.

Greedy little buggers! :D

They even like flakes. Whenever I add some to the tank, they notice and at once start to go all around the bottom eating them... Soooooo cute! They also like algae tabs. Tried feeding them cucumbers, but no bite. Do they not like veggies?

Hi Tetramad :)

Corys are omnivores who do best when they have a variety of foods including a good portion of meaty foods.

I feed mine a good quality flake food that has a high proportion of protien, and occasional algae wafer or spirulina disc, and lots of live blackworms. To vary their diet, I sometimes give them live tubifex worms, frozen bloodworms, or freeze dried tubifex worms.

Corys do need their own foods and will not do as well if they are just fed leftovers.

BTW, corys are schooling fish and love to have many companions of their own kind in the tank. If you have room, please get your little guys one or more friends to school with. :D

I feed mine peas as well, how do you get the freezedried tubliex to sink to the bottom, any idea's please.

Hi Wilder :)

Just take the cube between your fingers and put it into the tank. Gently squeeze it until it becomes moist, then rub and shake it until the individual worms seperate. They will gently float to the bottom which will feed the other fish while they are on the way down and the corys when they reach the bottom.

Will corys eat alge wafers or tablets? I want to make sure that my new one wont starve.

Thanks inchworm, i feed mine tablets, but with the goldfish i let them soak a long time in a container of tank water, as they tend to eat them as soon as they hit the tank, don't want swim bladder problems.

Ok! i bought some algae disks but my cory dosent seem to want to eat it. I finally saw him swimm over it but npt to stop and eat it. Next time should i put it somewhere he frequently swimms. I dont want to keep wasting them if he wont eat it.

i know my guppies fiend on algae wafers! try putting a single wafer in every two or three days. you won't have any trouble getting takers on it that way. you probably don't want to feed any more than that or else you'll end up with a lot of waste rotting on the bottom.
