I think its time i payed more attention to my plecos feeding diet...

How do you recommend i feed them?

Usually i feed them algae wafers and cucumber but i dont know to be honest how often i should give them it...

Please can someone tell me how i should be feeding them and how often as i want them to start having a proper and consistent diet so they are having a full and happy healthy life..

Some sort of timetable would be good if anyone has time to do one for me..

Thanks :)

I feed my plecs last thing at night after the other fish have been fed. Depending on which ones I feed as much variety as possible.

The ones that like a meatier diet get algae wafers, blood worm pellets and a prawn or some cockles/mussels now and then as a treat, the others mainly get algae wafers and veggies along with the wood in the tank for the panaques.

Veggies I feed at night and remove next morning, courgette has more nutrients than cucumber and there are loads of others you can try. Mushroom goes down well, use a fork to weight it down with the 'gills' facing up.

Once a day in the evening and variety is the main thing and research the diet your particular plecs will thrive on.

I'll second the prawns, I feed my senegal bichir prawns and my BN plec always nicks one as he loves them too :)

May be a stupid question... but do the prawns need to be raw grey ones or can you give them the pre-cooked and shelled ones?

Also, would a king tiger plec be ok with a full king prawn or would it need to be cut into smaller pieces?

i just use the ones that are already shelled out of the freezer dept. give them hole so the plec can rasp on them like they would other food :good:

Mine adore mussel - I feed once a week. I just buy a pack at my supermarket and keep it in the freezer. Take a couple out and drop them in a cup of hot water for a couple of minutes to defrost (not cook!) and drop them in the tank. All my fish love'em.

My consistency is having no consistency ;)

I pop a couple of Peas in each night for my Plec> he grazes on one whilst the C.Loaches and others nibble chunks out of the other one. Good entertainment as he tries to get both peas together whilst chasing the rest away.

Also, Corgette chunks are going down well with my young Plecs. (Sliced and halfed)

Algae wafers as a staple> but they go mad for Peas

i got a gn plec and a ringlet plec and they absolutely love peas and frozen bloodworms. mind you thats only if the silver dollars leave any !!!!

Well my King Tiger loved his prawns, also got some carnivore pellets which he seems to like as well. Thought it would be much harder to get him to accept new types of food, he'd just been fed algae wafers at the LFS I think, but as soon as the food hits the bottom he's straight over to it.

Anyone ever tried a carnivore plec with squid? It's pre-cooked stuff, just wondering if there is any reason not to try it
